Backup the iPhone

Back up your iPhone's data to prevent data loss during this process.

Please watch the video below, which clarifies some important points. Then, proceed with the steps below in order.

Step 1: Check iCloud Sync Settings

To be sure your personal Photos and Videos are not lost when supervising your device, check iCloud Settings are correct.

Step 2: Create a Full Backup of your iPhone

Next, you need to backup your iPhone with one of the following options:

Option 1: Backup with iCloud

iCloud can be used to store your iPhone backup.

Option 2: Backup Directly to Your Computer

Another option is store a local backup to your computer.

To back up your iPhone:

Step 3: Choose how you'll Restore your Data After Resetting your iPhone

This section will help you decide how you will go about restoring your iPhone's data after you reset and enable supervised mode.

Option 1: Signing into Apple Account after Setup (simplest)

The simplest option is to just sign back into your Apple account and restore the items you chose to sync with iCloud (see Step 1). While this approach is the simplest, you won't be able to restore Apps and App Data.

You'll need to re-download apps from the App Store and login again into any accounts they used

Make sure that both of these options are true:

If you do need to fully restore all App Data, you can't do this by signing into your Apple Account and using iCloud sync. Consider option 2 if app data is important.

Option 2: Restore a Full Backup (advanced)

If you'd like to restore a full backup with all app data, it is possible but the process is not straightforward: you will need a spare iPhone that is capable of running the same iOS version as your current iPhone (in many cases, an older iPhone will do).

Confirm that your spare iPhone will work with this setup process:

Because of the way iPhone backups work, supervision data is reset when restoring a full backup. However, a workaround for this is if you transfer data from another iPhone, supervision status is retained.

If you choose to restore data with a transfer, you should create a backup on either your Mac or through iCloud.

Make sure that both of these options are true:
